This is the updated post about how to make money on Fiverr. The original post was written in 2013 and now its been fully updated. This is the step by step tutorial of how Fiverr now works in 2018. Have a good read.

I am going to be teaching you A-Z of how to make money on Fiverr. From the point where you set up an account until you start making sales. I will also be showing you the top selling gigs that can actually make you money and some tips that will help you become a successful seller.

Fiverr has changed over the years, so are the rules. Most posts and reports out there are incomplete or outdated. This is a completely updated post.

Now lets get started.

What is Fiverr and How Does the Site Work?

Fiverr, if you aren’t familiar, is an online marketplace where you can offer your services to anyone starting at $5. Fiverr started around 2010/2011 and back then it was known as the website where you can get anything done or sell your service for just $5. Any service you wanted to buy or sell, you would get or sell at $5.

But now in 2018, Fiverr is not the $5 a gig marketplace anymore. Now you can sell your services for any amount you want but the minimum still remains $5.

According to Alexa, as at July of 2018, Fiverr is still the most visited freelance website in the US and globally. Fiverr is the 263rd most popular site in the U.S. and the 434th most popular site globally. The second is Upwork which ranks 289th most popular in US and 532nd globally while freelancer.com ranks 2,315th in US and 1,490th globally.

The top countries where Fiverr is popular include United States, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Bangladesh. Many people from these countries make a living by selling their skills on Fiverr, making Fiverr an international company.

You can offer almost anything. You can get paid to write article, create videos, do graphic design, transcribe audios, translate, edit stuffs, social media shares, the sky is the limit.

And keep in mind, it is a job, with requirements and responsibilities that you’ll need to handle just like a regular job. So, to help you get started if you are completely new, you just need to follow all the basics in this training guide. In time you will understand how it all works and develop your marketing skills to generate more sales.

On Fiverr you can sell regular gig starting at $5 or sell as a pro seller for thousands of dollars. As a beginner you can only sell regular gigs. As you gain more experience, you can become a pro seller. You can sign up as a pro seller after you have become eligible at Fiverr Pro Application Page.

The difference between a regular service and a pro service is that, regular sellers are low-cost sellers providing services to price-conscious regular buyers while Pro sellers are hand-picked professionals with a pro badge that are selected to work with serious business buyers and elite peers.

Right now, the regular gig services and the pro services are almost two segregated marketplaces – one standard and other premium – both accessible via same Fiverr platform. On Fiverr homepage, you can see the regular marketplace and the pro marketplace.

You need an existing professional freelance presence, preferably outside Fiverr to become a pro seller. Showing success as an independent freelancer is a good indication of the strength of your freelancing career. Ideally you will have an independent freelancing website or a strong track record with other freelancing marketplaces like Upwork or Freelancer. Websites like Dribbble, DeviantArt, Vimeo, Github, Periscope, and more are also great ways to show your work.

It you an experienced seller and have only freelanced on Fiverr, you will need to show a range of clients, successful deliveries, and great communications to be a pro seller. You will need to have excellent reviews, fast response times, few cancelled orders, and a reputation for getting things right with your buyers. The longer your history and the better your regular Fiverr selling, the more chance you have of being accepted.

So Fiverr has changed over the years since 2011 when they truly kicked off. Fiverr recently acquired Veed.me, a high-end video and animation marketplace featuring freelance videographers and animators working with clients such as Facebook, Google, and Slack. This is a part of Fiverr’s larger goal to continue to lead the digital freelance ecosystem.

There are now more opportunities to earn money on Fiverr and this is the time to join.

Services Offered on Fiverr

The services on offer on Fiverr include something like article writing, logo design, photo editing, video creation, singing, writing lyrics, writing poems, advertising, providing food recipes etc.

The services are in 8 categories as of writing this post. The categories are:

  • Graphics & Design
  • Digital Marketing
  • Writing & Translation
  • Video & Animation
  • Music & Audio
  • Programming & Tech
  • Business and
  • Fun & Lifestyle
Below is an example of services you can offer on Fiverr

Each category has sub-categories. Let me show you some Fiverr gigs titles on offer at fiverr.com, maybe you will get some inspiration before you even start.

“I will design a unique logo of your business”
“I will paint you in fine arts”
“I will draw you as a cartoon”
“I will teach you how to be a DJ”
“I will design a website for you”
“I will write 500 unique articles”

And some funny and bizarre ones like:

“I will hold your message in front of the Taj Mahal”
“I will sing happy birthday for you with bubbles in my bathtub bath”
“I will dance to 2 minutes of any song of your choice in a hot dog costume”
“I will send you sand from the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean”
“I will send you five beautiful chicken feathers for craft”
“I will tell you what to do with your money”
‘I will have Jesus personally promote your message”

Some gigs are funny, aren’t they, but I got to tell you these guys are making money from these services and what does that tell you? It tells you that anybody can offer anything on Fiverr and make money. And the beauty of it all is that, signing up with Fiverr is completely free.

All you do is sign up and you can start to earn money right away. All Fiverr get for letting you use their platform is a little commission for each sale you make. They get 20% of what you earn.

Before I teach you how to sign up and start making money, let me give you an idea of some of the things you can sell. How about……

“I will hold your message in front of the AT&T Stadium”

Hey, that’s my idea right there. But no problem, go ahead and use it if live in Texas Area in USA. You can share the money with me if you want. I know you won’t, but it’s okay.

Seriously though, there are lots of ideas you can come up with to make money on Fiverr and I am going to show you some in a bit. But first you need to know how it works right?

Now let’s talk about the people that make up Fiverr community.

The Fiverr Community

Two groups of people make up the Fiverr community — of course besides the Fiverr staff — the buyers and the sellers. You can buy as well as sell on this site. Since you are here to make money, we will cover how to register and sell as a seller.

Buyers

Some people come here only to buy something on Fiverr. Things they cannot get somewhere else or things they pay more for elsewhere. Some buy food recipes, poems, lyrics, stories, articles on how to raise children, artworks, logo designs etc.

These people are what you are here for and to make money, you need to understand what they want. You need to satisfy their needs and you will make money. Most buyers don’t sell anything on Fiverr. They are here just to buy anything they want.

Of course some sellers at some point need something too and you are going to sell to them too.

Sellers

Sellers are people who are on Fiverr basically to sell their services  as a regular seller starting from $5 or a pro seller selling for as high as $5,000. For every basic gig completed, the seller will get 80% of the money paid by the buyer while Fiverr gets 20% as their own share of you using their website and also for bringing buyers to you. Each seller has a maximum of 7 gigs to offer on his account as a a new seller.

Now you are allowed to register 7 services or gigs on a new account. You can create more as you improve from one level to the next.

How much you make is entirely up to your efforts. Some sellers get up to 20 or more jobs per day from just one gig and therefore make hundreds to thousands of dollars per day. If you can get at least a job per gig in a day over 7 gigs, that is like 7 jobs a day.

Now do the math: Lets say your average price per gig is $15 and you get one job per gig, you get $15 per gig while Fiverr retains $3

$12 multiplied by 7 gigs gives you $84 per day. That’s just one job per gig.

Lets be modest here. You can make much more. If you can get 2 jobs for every gig, that’s like $168 per day. In a month, that’s like $5,040.

Not bad for a simple job you can do right in your bedroom in your pyjamas, don’t you think? Now you ask if that is possible or not. Yeah it is but I have to warn you that, it is hard work, and you must be ready to really work hard at anything you do.

Hell, you can even sell books on preparation of smoothies or soup and you will make money.

However, do your research before you offer any service. If people are looking for it, then they will buy it.

Disclaimer.. Now note, you won’t start making that much from the very first day you start. It is a step by step process and of course you have to be good at what you do to satisfy your customers. You need to get good ratings and then you will get more jobs. The more jobs you get, the more money you make.

Feedback – Social Proof System

This point is very important and this why some successful Fiverr sellers are successful. With every gig you complete, there is s a rating system where you are rated good job or bad job. You get a thumbs up or a thumbs down from a buyer when the job is done.

The higher your star rating, the more confidence it gives other potential buyers who want to buy your service. A 5 star rating means that all your buyers are satisfied with your jobs and that helps draw buyers to your service.

Won’t you rather buy from someone like that than buy from a seller with a 2.5 star rating? To be successful you need to keep your rating close to a 5 stars– at least above 4.5 or 90%.

Yes, at times you can’t get a 5 star or 100% rating because some people just can’t be satisfied no matter what. But a 4.9 or 98% rating over 100 jobs for instance is okay, which means only 2 of your 100 buyers had a reason to complain, which is not bad.

Comments buyers make while rating your experience will appear on the your page (under Reviews), with an accompanying work sample when eligible (as part of the Live Portfolio feature).

Rating is completely optional and not necessary to complete an order. If no feedback is left by the buyer, the order will autocomplete three days after the delivery date. The comments and work samples provided in a feedback review will be viewable by members and non-members alike.

How to Sign up and Start Selling on Fiverr

Now let’s get into it. Let me show you how Fiverr works, how to set up an account and everything. I am even going to set up a sample Fiverr account and show you every step using screenshot images. I will walk you through the basics of signing up with Fiverr and guide you until you can set up your first account on your own.

Note: This account is for demonstration purpose. I am going to have it deleted after creating the account. Don’t go looking for it.

Now I assume you have your computer system. Don’t worry even a 10 year old desktop will do. Of course you need internet connection too. First go online and type in www.fiverr.com. Click on “Join” at the top and you will get something like you see in the screenshot below.

Now you need to enter your email. Make sure you create a new email for this. You can create an email that is close to whatever username you want to choose. After you enter your email, on the next page choose a good username and  password. Here i am just going to select procartoonman because i want to offer cartoons services on this account.
If the username is taken or too short, you will have to choose another username. Next choose a good password. Make sure that the password is 8 characters or longer. Combine upper and lowercase letters and numbers for your password. Click “continue” to complete the registration.

Note… Let me tell you here also that I always make sure I choose a name related to the service I want to offer. If I was offering a logo design gig, I would choose a username like logocreator or logobrain. It doesnt really help like it used to but it still works.

Now on the next page, you will be told to activate your account as you can see at the top of your screen.
login to your email and find the Fiverr verification email. Click on the link in the mail to activate your account.
Now your account will be verified and then you get that success message. Now your account is finally activated as you can see from the top of your screen.
Now you need to update your profile by clicking on the “edit your profile” link in the success message. Add your full names here and click “save changes”.
Next step is to update your public profile. This is the details other sellers and buyers see. Add your profile pictures and some other details. Your location is automatically generated.

After you have add your profile details, now its time to start selling. So far you are a registered member on Fiverr but you are not a seller yet so you can’t sell. To be a seller, you have to sign up for a seller’s account and that is where we are here right? So let’s get to that.

To sign up for a sellers account, click on the “become a seller” button right there at the top. Or find the “start selling” button at the top right hand corner. If you cant see that, click on the drop down on the profile photo and choose “My Dashboard.

Now you can see the “start selling” button. Click on the button.

This takes you to the seller application page. Click on “Become a seller”.

You will be directed to a page where you will have to put in your personal info. If you already added that in your public profile, this page will be filled from the added public profile details. If you did not do that before, just complete it here.

Tell Fiverr a bit about yourself. This information will appear on your public profile, so that potential buyers can get to know you better.

Add your profile picture and also add a little bit about yourself in the description. Use your real profile image or use a unique logo. Also add any other language you understand and can communicate or work in and Click on “continue”.

Next is the account security page where you need to add and confirm your email and phone number. You have already confirmed your email address so all you need is to add your phone number.

Note: This new feature is the reason why its hard to claim you are from another country. Now you need to verify your phone number and using VPN won’t help you here. That’s why its important you use your country and then you wont have problems with your account in the future.

Click on the “add phone number” button and on next page enter your phone number.

Now you can choose for them to send SMS or call you. If its by SMS, you will get a 4 digit code. Enter i in the space on the next page to confirm your phone number verification. If you choose the call option, you will get a call and get a 4 digit code to enter into the verification space.

Now if you enter the right code, you will get a success message.

On the next page which is the professional info page. Occupation, skill and your availability time are the most important details here. Others are optional.

Now click continue and on the linked account page, you can choose to link some of your social media accounts or just click to continue..
Now you are done with this step and now ready to create your first gig.
Click on the “create a gig” button to create your first gig.

How to Create a Gig

Once you click on the “create a gig” button, you will be directed to the gig creation page. This is a 6 step process. You will have to complete 6 steps and they are “Overview”, “Pricing”, “Descriptions & FAQ”, “Requirement”, “Gallery” and “Publish”.

We will go through 6 steps below, so follow me.

1 – Overview

Now lets set the overview page. It starts with adding gig title, categories and sub-category, gig metadata and search tags.

Note, this is where you either become successful or flop. You need to come up with a good content for your titles and tags/keyword. Check out other similar services and see their titles. Use a good title and add relevant keywords in your title and make it short. If you don’t know which category and subcategory your service belongs to, search for similar gig and note their category and subcategory.
Select the right metadata and also enter the search tags. Check other similar gigs if you don’t know which tags to use. You can add your own unique tags as long as its related to what buyers are searching for.
Click continue to be on the pricing page

2. Pricing

On this page, things will be different depending on what you are selling. Different services have different scope. First make sure you leave the 3 package system on. This is great for services that have to do with creativity because you can offer 3 different packages with different prices.

For some services its okay to activate packages system and use some extras while for some services, you are okay just using extras and avoid using the packages system. If what you offer is just a basic one time service with no other addition service, you can uncheck the 3 package feature.

On this account, i am going to be selling cartoon animation services so i am going to have different packages system on. What i am going to fill or select for each package will be different from yours. As long as you know what you are doing this should be a piece of cake.

I have voice over recordings, running time, script writing, background music, Full HD and i choose to tick or tick boxes depending on what i want to offer on the 3 different packages. Just do the same. If you don’t know what to do, just check out other similar gigs.

Down on the page are the extras. Choose any other additional extras you want. Extras for me are additional words, logo, additional image, sound etc. For you it might be different.

When you are done, click “save & continue” to be on the “Description & FAQ” page.

3. Description & FAQ

Here briefly describe your services and what you offer. Add all the information about your service, your experience and what buyers will get. Buyers want to see what you offer and you need to add that here.

In the FAQ, just add any frequently asked questions you can think of that buyers might want to ask you. This helps reduce the number of questions buyers ask when they contact you.

Click on continue to be on the requirement page

4. Requirement

On this page, all you need to do is add anything you need from the buyer. Information the buyer needs to provide for you to do the job.

After filling the requirement, click on continue to be on the gallery page.

5. Gallery

Add a relevant gallery image and if necessary for your service, a video and a PDF file. Some services require you add videos and some you don’t need to add video – Just images and/or PDF.

Use a good gig video if you offer video or animation services. These should be a sample of what buyers would get. It could also be a video showing a collection of your different works. Most times winning consumers to your service means letting them see it before they buy it. Good quality gig video of your works are a way of creating excitement. If your gig video is good then buyers will want to buy from you. If its poor then you won’t get anyone to buy your services. Your video sample should be shorter than 75 seconds and smaller than 50MB.

You can outsource your sample video or use any video tool like Camtasia or Wondershare filmora to create one.

If what you offer does not need a video, then just upload a quality gallery image. Your gallery image should be about 690 X 426 pixels in size.

These are some Fiverr gallery images do and don’t.

You can also design a good quality image with Photoshop, logo creator or any free online logo tool.

Once you have uploaded your image, click on “Done” and you will be on the publish page.

6. Publish

This is the final step where we publish our gig..

Click on the “Publish” button then you are done.

35
Now your gig is live and you know that when you see “Its alive” page as shown below…
36

Now click on “done” and your gig is now very much active. Your gig is now public for everyone to see.

You can see and edit your gig in your dashboard. You can see everything from sales made, active gigs, your analytics and your total money made.

37
If you need to make any edit like rewriting your description, changing images or videos, just click on edit by clicking on the drop down on the far right of your gig as shown below.
38
To add addition gigs, click on “add new gig”. Just follow the same step to create more and more gigs in the same or different categories. You are allowed up to 7 gigs.

How to Deliver Your Gig

Now that you have created your gig or even added other ones, sales will start to come in. If there is any sales, Fiverr will send you a message in the dashboard area. You get it via the notification center at the top of your account. You can chat with prospective buyers, negotiate price and other things.

notification

Right beside the notification center is your inbox where your can check for messages from buyers. Its like your regular inbox where you can communicate with buyers and other sellers.

Once you get a job, just make sure to complete the job and don’t exceed the deadline. To deliver the service, just click on the message link that says “deliver gig”. Attach the finished work and click “save”. Now the buyer will receive his job and if satisfied, will indicate to Fiverr that he has got his work.

After the deal is done, you get 80% of whatever the buyer pays. This shows at the top right hand corner of your dashboard area and every amount you make adds up. Your earning clearance is 14 days.

How to Promote Your Gigs

On fiverr, its important you promote your gig otherwise no one will see it. Don’t wait for your gigs to get featured on the front page before you take action. You need to promote your gig(s). You need to advertise your gig(s) on social networking sites like Facebook, twitter, forums, blogs etc. The more people you send to your gig, the better your chances of selling.

I have sold a gig just 5 mins after publishing it. Apparently a buyer saw it immediately I published it. A service he was probably looking for to buy.

Note that you don’t have to do promotions and all that if you don’t want to. People will find you if your gig is unique and they will order for it.

Try as much as possible to do the job as directed by the buyer. Once you do this job as directed, you will get thumbs up and thus, a 100% or 5 star rating. Also note that if you do not do this job within the time you indicated, the buyer has the right to cancel or even give you a bad reviews and rating.

How to Withdraw Your Earnings

You have completed jobs and have made some money, how do you get your money? Now I know this is why you are on Fiverr anyways so I am going to get to it.

There are two ways to get paid on Fiverr; by “PayPal” or by “Fiverr revenue card’ or “Payoneer”. If you reside in countries where PayPal is not fully active, then you should consider the Payoneer or Fiverr revenue card option. PayPal payment service is not available in some countries like Nigeria or India. Don’t ask me why; just forget about this.

You need to apply for Payoneer MasterCard at the official website or get it through Fiverr. Learn How to apply for Payoneer account to collect your Fiverr funds.

Your Payoneer MasterCard will be sent to your address you have supplied in your account and you can use this card free of charge at least until you start using it.

It takes like 4-5 weeks for you card to get to your location. Once you get your personalized card, use it to withdraw your earned money. You deserve all the hard work.

You can use this card to make withdrawal from your account at any ATM anywhere in the world. Of course you get your money in your local currency but some charges do apply for each withdrawal. These charges are minimal and won’t hurt you.

Note….If you have a means of getting a PayPal account, then by all means get your money via PayPal. I know guys who do. PayPal is also a great option but risky in some countries.

What Not to do on Fiverr

Now I have to warn you though, do not set up many accounts to sell similar gigs like some claimed gurus tell you. It only leads to your account getting flagged. The thing is Fiverr will ban your accounts and you have to start all over again.

You can create up to 7 gigs on your account and can even delete some non-performing ones and replace them with better gigs. 7 gigs are even too much if you have quality high demand gigs.

Best Performing Gigs on Fiverr

There are some services on Fiverr that are very high in demand. Although If you have a programming skill or any kind of skill that you think you can monetize or you are a wiz when it comes to arts and crafts then you are welcome to offer those services.

But the top categories where you can make money are the Graphics & Design, Digital Marketing, Writing & Translation and Video & Animation categories.

Research has shown that the top services marketers outsource are in these categories. Marketers always outsource graphics, videos, content, SEO, social media marketing, animation, marketing strategies, sales copy, web traffic etc.

If you want to make money on Fiverr then offer a service in these top 4 categories.
